SUCCESS STORIES
TvA - TEXAS VOLUNTEERSFOR AMAL
|

Lucy is our first rescue. She came from a North Texas Shelter where she was known as
“Princess.” Her recuer/foster home quickly decided to adopt her.
Her new "Mom" and "Dad" took Lucy to Sonic. They relate the following:
In the car next to us was a woman with her twin boys, about 3. These boys just went nuts
over Lucy who was in my lap hanging out the window making friends with everyone,
especially these boys. It was obvious that the boys had a very suppressed IQ. The mother
was very surprised that they even noticed Lucy much less were so excited.
She asked me if I would be willing for Lucy to visit with the boys in the playground at Sonic.
We did. I took her over to the playground and the boys were so excited. She was
wonderful. Rolled over on her back. They were climbing all around her and were playing with
her. Both made many sounds, but there was no speaking. I told them her name and they
gave her some ice cream. The mother told me they seldom noticed anything and were
scared to death of dogs. NOT THIS ONE. They also did not talk.
When we left, I was walking her back to the car. All of a sudden one of the boys SAYS to
her "...bye bye Lucy."
I don't know who was crying more, mom over the fact that this child spoke FOR THE FIRST
TIME or me because if was Lucy who had the key to unlock his heart.
