Louisiana Alaskan Malamute
                 Protection
                                          WHO ARE WE?
Louisiana Alaskan Malamute Protection is a non-profit, all volunteer organization based in
Baton Rouge, La.  We are affiliated with APAWS, a local all-companion-animal, 501 (c) 3
organization, and with the Alaskan Malamute Assistance League, which is a nation-wide
group dedicated to the protection of the Alaskan Malamute.  We ascribe to the AMAL Code of
Ethics.  Further, we are a partner to the Texas Volunteers for AMAL (TvA).

We are a small group of volunteers who feel that the day can't start without a sloppy kiss
from a big, hairy Alaskan Malamute.   We absolutely love the breed.   Our chief director has
35 years of experience in the ownership, training, comformation and obedience
exhibition, weight pulling and carting of Alaskan Malamutes.  Others have simply owned a
Malamute or two or more, and can't live without them.   We care very much about the
homeless Mals, and save as many as we have resources to save.
WHAT DO WE DO?

LAMP follows the four Rs: Rescue; Rehabilitate; Rehome; Reduce.

We RESCUE Alaskan Malamutes from owner or good samaritan turn-ins, shelter releases, strays, and
occasionally from puppy mill closures.  All of these Alaskan Malamutes deserve a second chance and a
good life.

We REHABILITATE by providing full veterinary services including spaying/neutering, vaccinations,
heartworm testing, prevention and treating, and treat for parasites and any known illness or health
problem.  We socialize our dogs and provide some basic training in manners.

We REHOME  by carefully screening applicants and matching each potential adopter with the Malamute
we think most suitable.   To do this we must first temperament test each dog and develop a profile on it.
We also require home and veterinary checks to insure the quality of the potential adopter.  Because
Louisiana is hot and humid most of the year, we insist that our adoptees be house dogs.

We REDUCE the number of homeless Alaskan Malamutes through education and spay/neutering all dogs
before they are released.   We teach people about the character and behavior of the Alaskan Malamute, as
well as the fun of living with big, hairy dogs.
                                  HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We desperately need good, experienced volunteers to serve as foster homes.   We can also use volunteers
in a number of other capacities.

We appreciate any donations that you make.   Donations may be sent to APAWS, or AMAL, with "for
LAMP on the For line.   Donations may also be made through Pay Pals on the web site of these
organizations.  Our contact information is below.
